About our

Farm

Jenkins Family Farms is a MOSA certified organic farm that uses regenerative practices to heal the soil, sequester carbon and restore the vital relationship between land and animal.

At Jenkins Family Farms we believe that animals are creatures endowed with a purpose and place in our environment and that they have a vital role to play in keeping our environment balanced and healthy. We believe that the animals and the soil work together in a necessary relationship, which if broken, results in the breakdown of human health and community as well. We are passionate about regenerative agriculture, so if you ask us any questions be prepared for a long winded answer!

about our

Family

Benjamin has been in agriculture since he started working on his uncle’s organic dairy farm at 9 years old. At age 17 Ben began managing a few head of beef cattle and in college decided to acquire Hereford cattle. At that point he began to direct market beef – and Ben’s Beef was born. Since then Ben’s Beef has attracted loyal customers who enjoy the naturally raised, grass based meat.

In 2012 Ben and his new bride, Kim (who only married him for the quality of his steak, or so the story goes), took over Jenkins Family Farms and returned organic dairy to the farm’s enterprises. They now raise Ben’s Beef and milk about 50 head of organic dairy cows. Ben is proud to be the 4th generation on the same farm and feels blessed to be raising and teaching the next generation the importance of caring for the land and the animals.

Our Mission

At Ben’s Beef and Jenkins Family Farms it is our mission to foster the natural vital relationship between the land and animals using the best regenerative practices available to us so that the natural and necessary relationship of land, animals and the human community can thrive. By fostering healthier soils we raise healthier animals. Healthy soils that sequester carbon exist in relationship with grazing animals which in turn impacts the health of the human community.

Frequently Asked Questions

Aside from the amount of meat, what is the difference between a ¼ and a ½?

All of our orders are mixed, so you get cuts from the front and rear in a ¼ or a ½. There is a slight discount the more that you order (see pricing information).

Are the animals grass-fed? What does grassed-based mean?

The animals are raised on organic pasture and have free choice hay. In the last couple of months the animals are fed a healthy finishing diet of whole grains that helps the meat marble and tenderize. Ben’s Beef has been refining the finishing process for 20+ years.

What does “naturally raised” mean?

Our farm is certified organic and the cattle are raised on green pastures and given free choice hay for the majority of the time. They are NEVER fed medicated feed, growth hormones or recycled animal byproducts. The processor does not have an option of an organic label on the final product.

What is Regenerative Agriculture?

To learn more about regenerative agriculture and its healthy planet practices and we recommend the following books and documentaries: Kiss the Ground and Sacred Cow and Living Soil.

What are Regenerative Agricultural Methods?

We manage our pastures so that they are not overgrazed, we look for opportunities to reduce or eliminate tillage (soil disturbance) on the productive land, we avoid deep tillage (soil disturbance) as much as possible, we grow a portfolio (variety) of crops designed to conserve the soil structure and biology (the soil’s ecosystem).

Why are Regenerative Agricultural Practices Important for the Planet?

They reduce farming’s carbon footprint and correct the imbalance of carbon in the atmosphere that has been building since the beginning of the industrial revolution. These practices sequester carbon in the soil where it can be the building block of healthy plants.

When do you have meat ready?

Usually we have orders ready for the January through April time period, this makes the best use of our pastures and gives the beef cattle the best life experience. Since the shutdowns of 2020 processing facilities have experienced an unprecedented increase in demand. High demand for processor space and limited availability means that you need to order your beef at least 6 months in advance.
